“Read 2 Succeed” is a book donation drive to collect books for
underprivileged learners and work towards developing libraries in local schools.
Not only does reading help to develop a child’s imagination, it is also the foundation of all learning. The 23rd of April is World Book day.
Join the Hands of Love book drive as we collect books for underprivileged learners and work towards developing libraries in local schools.
What we need
Books! Old or new, we need them! We all have those books that have been gathering dust for years and we know that we won’t read them again, but we feel bad throwing them away! (We should) Now you can feel good by donating them, and contributing to our country’s future!
Why we need it
29% of SA’s kids are illiterate
Did you know that according to a recent Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), eight out of 10 Grade 4 learners were unable to read for meaning across all languages in South Africa?
The PIRLS study also found that more than half of South Africa’s primary schools lack books, libraries and reading infrastructure.
Children who struggle to read by the age of 13 are highly likely to drop out of school, which has catastrophic implications for their prospects and our country’s future .
How you can help
You can bring some books to one of our drop-off points, and we will make sure that they get to the schools/institutions that need them! Let’s get South Africa reading!
Volunteer your business as a drop-off point
The more drop-off points we have, the better. You can get involved in this way and make a difference.
